Making a Bowie part 2 : The Handle

THIS KNIFE IS SOLD NOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT. In this video I focus on the handle portion of the build, completing the knife. Handle materials are 303 stainless steel and arizona desert iron wood. This video is a little longer because it is so hard to include all the details. Even now it feels rushed, but I elected to leave as much of the interesting techniques as I could. Many do...

I finished this knife for a customer and thought you might like to see it before it heads off. I am very proud of this knife. I don't know if the grind is unique but I have coined it the Crusader grind, emploing styles of sword and blending it with bowie style. Side note : The theme is based on customer request.

Making a Puukko
Просмотров 910 тыс.4 года назад
One of my most popular knives is the Scandanavian style Puukko. My design is contemporary rather than traditional. I use 75CR1 steel that I have laser cut from 4mm sheets. Each blade is fully hardened and tempered individually, before grinding. The finish on this blade is a fire scale finish with an A30 bevel finish. I don't polish the bevels because the method of sharpening these blades will q...

I find that if you heat it slightly further after the quench it can get very very black. What i do for my parts is: quench (sub critical temp) then take it out, heat it till it looks dry, use an oiled rag and continually wipe oil on it. Its a mess but it can have a very strong black color this way

It seems that the knife was probably just perfect as it was it obviously was very difficult for you to remove the handle material a quick sanding and some lacquer or oil and the handle material would have been fine and I'm sure the blade could have been sanded really quick on a trizact belt or something and buffed and done but hey I don't know
